Bitcoin miners lag the rally as only Canaan outperforms BTC in a group of 11 firms

Bitcoin has risen about 22% since Aug. 17, but listed bitcoin miners have not kept pace. According to an analysis cited by BlockBeats on Sept. 10, only Canaan outperformed BTC among 11 bitcoin mining companies and related firms, while the other 10 all trailed the cryptocurrency. The median gain for those 10 stocks was just 1.8% over the same period. Core Scientific and Terawulf ranked among the weakest performers, lagging bitcoin by 27% and 24%, respectively. The analysis said some miners have shifted in recent years toward high-performance computing, or HPC, and AI data center businesses. That move helped support share prices during the crypto bear market, but it also diverted attention from bitcoin mining operations and introduced added operational risk. At the same time, the report said a dual strategy built around AI data centers and bitcoin mining could still become a long-term advantage. Mining operations may benefit during crypto bull markets, while AI data center exposure could help improve balance sheets when the digital asset market is under pressure.

Bitcoin Rally Regains Market Focus as Firms Accelerate BTC and ETH Accumulation

Bitcoin's 23% surge in late August has reignited corporate interest in crypto assets, with mining stocks climbing 41%-67%, outperforming several AI infrastructure firms. The rally was driven by the U.S. Treasury's expanded bond buyback, positive regulatory signals from the White House, and the liquidation of over $1.6 billion in short positions. On the corporate front, Strive purchased 1,800 BTC for $143 million, becoming the fifth-largest publicly traded bitcoin holder, while Strategy added 4,603 BTC, raising its total to over 845,000 BTC. Meanwhile, 21 major financial institutions, including Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, and Citigroup, are planning to launch a dollar stablecoin in the first half of 2027. On Ethereum, Bitmine continued its 65-week accumulation streak, now holding 5.9 million ETH (4.9% of circulating supply), though it still faces $5.1 billion in unrealized losses.

Corporate crypto bets grow as Bitcoin rally lifts miners, treasury buyers and stablecoin plans

Crypto’s August rebound shifted attention back to direct digital-asset exposure at the corporate level. Bitcoin mining stocks that had spent much of the downturn trying to appeal to AI investors rallied sharply as BTC climbed, with BlocksBridge Consulting saying late-August Bitcoin gains outpaced many AI-linked infrastructure names. The report highlighted strong moves in Canaan, American Bitcoin and Cango, while some miners with heavier AI and high-performance-computing exposure were flat or lower. It also pointed to three catalysts behind the rally: expanded US Treasury liquidity-supporting buybacks, renewed regulatory optimism after a White House crypto meeting and a short squeeze that liquidated more than $1.6 billion in positions. At the same time, listed companies continued adding Bitcoin to their balance sheets, with Strive and Strategy buying thousands of BTC in the final week of August. Elsewhere, a group of 21 major financial institutions, including Bank of America, Goldman Sachs and Citi, is planning a stablecoin venture aimed first at a US dollar token in the first half of 2027. On Ethereum, Bitmine extended its weekly buying streak to 65 weeks and now holds more than 5.9 million ETH, close to 5% of circulating supply, even as its position still carries roughly $5.1 billion in unrealized losses, according to DropsTab data.

Bitcoin Rally Lifts Mining Stocks as Canaan Jumps 67% in a Day

Bitcoin’s recent price gains have driven a sharp rebound in shares of several mining-related companies, according to Techub News, citing Cointelegraph. The report named Canaan, American Bitcoin and Cango among the stocks that moved higher. Canaan posted the largest single-day gain, rising as much as 67%. The move suggests that Bitcoin’s price action remains a primary driver for listed mining companies, even as some firms in the sector have been shifting part of their focus toward artificial intelligence. In other words, the market is still reacting strongly to changes in BTC, despite broader efforts by miners to expand beyond their core business. No additional pricing details or time frame beyond the recent Bitcoin rise were disclosed in the brief. The report framed the stock surge as a direct response to strength in Bitcoin, with Canaan leading the group on the day.

Bitcoin’s 23% Weekly Jump Lifts Mining Stocks, With Some Outpacing AI Names

Bitcoin mining shares rebounded sharply after Bitcoin rose about 23% over the past week, reversing weakness seen earlier in the sector. According to BlockBeats, some mining stocks posted gains that exceeded those of AI infrastructure names, pointing to renewed investor interest in direct Bitcoin exposure. Canaan, American Bitcoin and Cango were up between 41% and 67% over the recent period, while CoreWeave gained about 21%, Nebius rose 17%, and IREN added 15%. Some miners that had previously shifted toward AI and high-performance computing, or HPC, were flat or down. BlocksBridge Consulting said Bitcoin’s latest move was driven by three factors: the U.S. Treasury’s expansion of long-dated Treasury buybacks, the Trump administration’s push for Congress to pass the crypto market structure bill known as the CLARITY Act, and a short squeeze triggered after Bitcoin’s breakout. The report added that liquidations across the crypto market topped $1.6 billion within 24 hours. Even as many miners have moved into AI and HPC infrastructure in recent years, the report said Bitcoin prices still have a significant effect on mining equities. BlocksBridge previously estimated that since 2026, nine listed miners generated about $341 million in AI and HPC revenue while spending $5.11 billion in related capital expenditures.

Bitcoin’s August rebound lifts beaten-down mining stocks, reversing part of the AI trade

Bitcoin’s rebound in August has helped fuel a sharp rally in several previously lagging crypto mining stocks, according to a Cointelegraph report citing new research from BlocksBridge Consulting. The report said Bitcoin gained about 23% over the past week, outpacing most AI-related infrastructure names and helping shift market attention away from miners with stronger artificial intelligence and high-performance computing exposure. Shares of Canaan, American Bitcoin, and Cango rose between 41% and 67%, while CoreWeave gained about 21%, Nebius rose 17%, and IREN added 15%. BlocksBridge said some miners with heavier AI and HPC exposure were flat or lower during the same period. The firm pointed to three catalysts behind Bitcoin’s move: a U.S. Treasury announcement on Aug. 19 to at least double the scale of long-term Treasury liquidity support for buybacks, rising regulatory optimism after a White House meeting with crypto executives and Donald Trump’s call for Congress to pass the CLARITY Act, and a short squeeze following Bitcoin’s breakout that led to more than $1.6 billion in crypto liquidations over 24 hours. BlocksBridge also said public Bitcoin miners’ investment in AI data centers was about 15 times their AI-related revenue.

AG Thorson says Bitcoin may have topped short term, still sees a final washout toward $40,000 in September or October

Chartered Market Technician AG Thorson said a U.S. Treasury bond buyback announcement on Wednesday pushed the U.S. dollar index below its 200-day moving average and helped trigger a broad rally in precious metals and mining shares. Gold, silver and platinum, in his view, have all confirmed major mid-year bottoms, while mining equities have taken the lead. Thorson said GDX has already climbed more than 40% from its low and could reach a record high before gold does, possibly before year-end. He also pointed to support in GDXJ and a rebound in SILJ after a trendline retest. On Bitcoin, Thorson said the asset first jumped on the Treasury news and then accelerated during a bullish White House crypto event, producing a record $3 billion short liquidation. Even so, he has not fully abandoned his earlier call for one more washout before October, with price potentially testing the equilibrium level near $39,880, or roughly $40,000. He added that Bitcoin’s move back above the 200-day moving average has weakened that thesis, and acknowledged that either the $40,000 target or the October bottom timing could be wrong if September does not bring a sharp decline.
